Local musicians Natasha Kozaily, The E-Z Street Band, Sea ‘N’ B and photographer Aston Ebanks helped raise money for Cayman Wildlife Rescue (CWR) at the Musicians’ Showcase at Camana Bay.

The Musicians’ Showcase is a once-a-month event organised by Oneworld Entertainment, Camana Bay, and Abacus restaurant which aims to raise the profile of local artists and musicians while raising money for local charities too.

Oneworld’s owner, Eden Hurlston who also plays percussion in the 2-piece E-Z Street Band said, “On the second Saturday of each month, we work on a different community organisation. We started in December last year raising funds for the Human rights Commission. In January we held ‘Blues for the Blues’ – an evening of music from local blues bands for the Blue Iguana Recovery Programme and Botanic Park. In February we did Love Yourself to Health which benefitted the Cancer Society and Diabetes and Diabetes Association. In March we did “Honouring Women’s Month, for the Family Resource Centre and featured all-women artists, June’s event went to support the Red Cross, and last month was for Cayman AIDS Foundation.”

CWR’s Lois Blumenthal explained how the money was raised:  “We sold our own CWR product – the “Adoption” kits – which consist of a plushy toy Cayman Parrot or Cayman Bat along with a Certificate of Appreciation, a tote-bag and a pamphlet with information about the animals. We raised $110 with those sales. Also, Natasha Kozaily and Sea ‘N’ B gave us their CDs to sell at the event as well.”

Cayman Wildlife Rescue is a program of the National Trust for the Cayman Islands which rescues and rehabilitates sick, injured and orphaned wildlife for release back into the wild.

The evening began with musician and songwriter Natasha Kozaily, who sang her own songs from her new EP, A Tail of One Fish, accompanying herself on the keyboard.

Next came the mellow Caribbean soft-rock style of the E-Z Street Band, with Glen Scott on acoustic guitar and Eden Hurlston on congas.

Sea N’ B, with Chuck and Barrie Quappe on guitar and congas, were joined by Roger “Bugs” Wilson on bass. Together, they served up their unique musical cocktail of calypso, jazz, rock, and reggae, while Aston Ebanks displayed his black-and-white photos for sale – with their theme of travel and locomotion.
