It is not surprising that the Hon. Rolston Anglin, Cayman Islands Education Minister, is refusing to make any comment or statement concerning his single vehicle crash on Wed May 23^rd.

In the early hours of that fateful morning, the minister drove his car into a ditch near to the Avalon apartment complex on the West Bay Road. No one was hurt but the RCIPS were called and Anglin has been charged with Driving Under the Influence. He was released on police bail.

No details have been announced by the police as to his level of alcohol. The limit here is 100 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.

The only statement the education minister has made was the issue was now in the hands of the court system and, “I do not believe it will hinder my position as education minister.”

I believe it will.

He has fallen down on his responsibilities and his position he is paid for by us to not only execute his cabinet post the best he possibly can but SET AN EXAMPLE. What message is he sending to the very people he is representing? YOUNG PUPILS.

I can only wonder what he is going to say to the country’s young graduates when he addresses them at the approaching graduation ceremonies. Is he even going to mention his accident and his DUI charge? If he does will he use it as an example of what not to do? Will he say to the graduates,

“Look, what has happened to me?”

“If you drink and drive look at how your driving becomes impaired.”

“I was lucky. I could have been injured or killed myself. Even worse. It could have been someone else injured or dead and I had caused it.”

Or will Anglin say absolutely nothing?

Perhaps I will be surprised.
