Last year Cayman Brac’s National Trust’s Committee utilised the Queen’s Official Birthday as their first major fundraiser.  The successful event was a unique celebration combining an afternoon social tea, silent auction, local art show and membership drive.  Heritage House will again host the site Monday 18 June from 4-6.30pm.

This year’s auction highlights many sought after and unusual items.  Vouchers from all three islands will be in high competition.  Values range from over $1,000CI to a few dollars, so any and every one can afford to participate.  Cayman Airways graciously donated air fares including a Miami bound flight.  Other high ticket items feature a weekend for 2, meals included at Little Cayman’s Pirate’s Point Resort.   Ritz Carlton Brunch for 2 and Shangri La Bed and Breakfast gave overnight accommodations in Grand Cayman.  Mango Manor Bed and Breakfast in the Brac also contributed an overnight stay.

Vouchers from all three islands offer services, gift items and meals.  Service vouchers vary from piano lessons, pet sitting, yard work and many more plus meals from select restaurants.  Gift certificates are available for shopping trips.

For seekers of the unusual, a hand painted 12’X9’canvas labyrinth and beautifully handcrafted hammocks will be up for bidding; for the youngsters, a special children’s section.

Planning ahead, you can bid your entire next staycation/vacation while helping the local committee fund much needed programmes.  It is their mission to conserve and preserve the endangered species endemic to Cayman Brac.    Brac Rock Iguanas is one such study kicked off this past January with the help of local and international volunteers.  The data gathered will feed the conservation plan for a sanctuary where native species will seek refuge to procreate and thrive for future generations in the Brac.   Such vision will ensure the growth of the island’s development and population will provide maintenance of natural habitats and wildlife.

The afternoon will be filled with cultural arts and classical music.   Local Artists have donated their works for auction and display with themes of natural and cultural heritages.

Admission cost includes a scrumptious menu of assorted British Tea Sandwiches, Chilled Soup, Mini Quiches, Finger desserts and exotic Iced Teas all served on the elegant setting of the Heritage House grounds.  Members pay $5, Non-Members $7 and children under 12 years $3.

Whenever planning a Royal Event, one typically considers donning their ‘Sunday Best’ and a hat.  Hats are not necessary, though last year most attendees were caught up in the spirit.  For such guests, there will be a workshop at Heritage House on Saturday morning 16^th June.  Saskia Edwards will host a free craft session for children and Deb Truchan from Little Cayman will head a Ladies’ Hat Making/Fascinator workshop.  Anyone needing to purchase a hat, Ms. Annielee Ebanks will have her thatch plait hats for sale.
