Grand Cayman (GIS) – At a meeting in George Town Primary School Hall on Thursday, 17 June 2021, over 130 persons heard all about the criteria for being chosen as the workers who will conduct Census 2021 later this year.

They were attending the second public information meeting held by the Economics and Statistics Office to recruit potential workers. Starting on 10 October 2021, some 420 census workers will start visiting households to conduct the population and dwellings count in the Cayman Islands, as part of the once in a decade census. The current count had been delayed from 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

he attendees got to sign up to be census workers in addition to hearing from ESO staff led by Director, Mr. Adolphus Laidlow. The ESO team spoke about the requirements as well as the mandatory training the census staff will have to undergo to become workers and supervisors, both paid positions.

The census count will run for some two months with the aim to count 100 percent of residents in the Cayman Islands. Preliminary results will be released early in 2022, with the full report to be out later in the year.
