Sergey Tokarev: The first AI ecosystem to grow in Ukraine

By Sergey Tokarev

Ukraine has been taking significant steps in AI and ML development. One of the most remarkable events in this area is establishing the first artificial intelligence ecosystem AI House in Ukraine by investor Sergey Tokarev. The expert believes it will empower the Ukrainian experts to invest in AI and encourage the talents to grow and create new IT products recognized globally.

The objective of AI House focuses on offering modern education for young developers who deals with machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI). Therefore, it involves a large community of experts and skilled newcomers as well as a place where new startups are designed. Additionally, leading technology companies and universities of Ukraine will be engaged in this project. Also, Sergey Tokarev notices that some distinguished names of companies and institutions already take part in the AI House. Among them are Reface, ZibraAI, venture studio Pawa, the polytechnics in Kyiv and Lviv, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, and the Ukrainian Catholic University.

The initiators of AI House, the investor Sergey Tokarev and Dan Dmitrenko, could find great potential in developing such a system which is already working effectively in Germany and France. They are partners at Roosh technology company that will invest some part of funds in this project. The businessmen note that AI House is still young and seems ambitious. But with the belief in a great number of talented Ukrainian developers, they plan to take the leadership in Europe.

The project team has studied each aspect of IT education to cover every lack of experience and provide valuable opportunities to prepare excellent specialists and design promising AI projects. Bogdan Ponomar became the CEO of the project as he was previously in charge of implementing strategic objectives at Ciklum. For the reason that many students start learning AI from the third year of their study at the university, he emphasizes that the AI House project will reveal to students more opportunities to create their own AI projects already in their second year. Thus, the project intends to conduct regular offline ML intensive camps, Olympiads, guest lectures from experts, hackathons. In addition, specialized schools in machine learning are to be launched.

The project co-initiator Dan Dmitrenko adds information about the schedule and teaching staff the students will have. He notes that they will provide related disciplines for students and invite various specialists as speakers: entrepreneurs, investors,  professors, technical workers, etc. In such a way, they will share their experience and their vision of the process to create a complete picture of the AI world to the students. Thus, AI House is not only an educational project. It enables the creation of a valuable platform where AI professionals can share experiences.

Sergey Tokarev notices that the project has already been supported by prominent experts like Volodymyr Kuleshov, the professor at Cornell & Cornell Tech, Co-Founder and Chief Technologist at Afresh, Oles Petriv, Chief Technology Officer at Reface, Borys Pratsiuk, Chief Technology Officer at Pawa, and others. The investor announces that there will be the opening of a free ML school soon. The project’s organizers promised to provide more details about the educational school in mid-October.
