Private prison company, GEO Group, ordered to pay detainees minimum wage
In a win for workers’ rights, a federal jury decided this week that private prison company GEO Group must pay detainees in an immigration detention center in Tacoma, Washington the state minimum wage of $13.69 per hour. The class action lawsuit brought against GEO Group exposed how detainees were paid just $1 a day for their labor. GEO Group has also faced allegations of forced labor in its immigration detention centers.
