Three possible destinations for Fulham’s Fabio Carvalho

Unfortunately for Fulham, they find themselves on the cusp of losing yet another top-class, high-rated youngster. After just breaking into the senior squad at Craven Cottage at the end of the 2018-19 season, becoming the youngest player in Premier League history at just 16 and 30 days, Harvey Elliott joined Liverpool for a mere £1.6 million that summer.

Over two years on, it is a move that still leaves a bitter taste in the mouths of Fulham fans to this day. And it appears that the west London side, who are heavily tipped for promotion back to the Premier League in the English Championship betting odds, are about to let another fantastic young talent go.

19-year-old Fabio Carvalho, who has three goals and an assist in seven Championship games this season, has turned down Fulham’s latest massive contract offer and with his current deal due to end this summer, the Cottagers could cash in on the Lisbon-born winger during the January transfer window — much to the anger and frustration of Fulham fans.

With that in mind, read on as we take a look a some of the possible destinations for Carvalho…

Liverpool

With the dust having only just settled on Liverpool luring Elliott away from Craven Cottage, the 2019-20 Premier League winners could be about to open a whole new can of worms as they are reportedly the frontrunners to land Carvalho’s sought-after signature in January.

The Anfield side are making a habit of signing young players for cheap fees, having also brought in Joe Gomez from Charlton for just a few million, and so far, it has worked in their favour with both the defender and Elliott developing into solid first team players.

With Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané due to feature in the Africa Cup of Nations throughout much of January and February, Carvalho could be a decent back-up option in attack for Jürgen Klopp.

Real Madrid

Always on the hunt for the best young talent in world football, Real Madrid have brought in some fantastic talent in recent years — including Brazilians Vinícius Júnior, Rodrygo, and Reinier Jesus and more recently 18-year-old French midfielder Eduardo Camavinga. So, it is no surprise that Spanish giants Real Madrid are believed to be interested in bringing the 19-year-old to the iconic Santiago Bernabéu.

In a state of transition under new boss Carlo Ancelotti, who has returned to the Spanish capital for a second stint at the Real Madrid helm after just one full season with Everton, Carvalho could be a great option for Los Blancos as they look to rebuild, especially with Gareth Bale and Eden Hazard’s futures with the club in doubt. Making the jump from Fulham to Real Madrid will be no easy feat though, and we all know how demanding the passionate fans can be in La Liga.

Leeds United

They might not carry the same prestige as Liverpool or Real Madrid, but they are still a giant of the English game and somewhere like Elland Road could be the perfect place for Carvalho to develop into a more well-rounded player without the pressure that comes that comes with representing one of the top sides in Europe.

With Brazilian international Raphinha, who has quickly made a name for himself in Yorkshire since signing from Ligue 1 side Rennes, constantly linked with a move away from Leeds, Carvalho could be the perfect replacement for the 24-year-old tricky winger should he depart in January or even at the end of the season.
