Grand Cayman, 7 March 2022 – The National Heroes Day awards ceremony on Cayman Brac will now be held on Saturday, 19 March 2022, 1-3 p.m. at the Aston Rutty Civic Centre, the Protocol Office confirms.

            In accordance with gathering limits established under COVID-19 regulations, the indoor ceremony will be by invitation only with mask wearing mandatory.

            Attendees will include His Excellency the Governor, Martyn Roper; Premier, Hon. G. Wayne Panton; Minister for Youth, Sports, Culture & Heritage, Hon. Bernie Bush; Minister for Education, District Administration & Lands, Hon. Juliana O’Connor-Conolly and other members of Parliament as well as District Commissioner B. L. (Mark) Tibbetts.   Awardees or those receiving an award on behalf of an awardee can be accompanied by one guest.

Under this year’s theme ‘Honouring Our Uniformed Services’, those being recognised in Cayman Brac will include members of the Royal Cayman Islands Police (and Special Constabulary), Cayman Islands Fire Service, Customs & Border Control (and Legacy Officers) and the Cayman Islands Cadet Corps.

Recipients will be recognised under the following nominating categories:

–       Early Pioneer – An individual, alive or deceased, who has made an exceptional contribution, prior to 1971, to the development and/or delivery of Uniformed Services in the Cayman Islands.

–       Pioneer – An individual, alive or deceased, who has made an exceptional contribution between 1971, and 2011, to the development and/or delivery or Uniformed Services in the Cayman Islands.

–       Emerging Pioneer – An individual, alive or deceased, who has made an exceptional contribution between 2012, and 2021, to the development and/or delivery or Uniformed Services in the Cayman Islands.

–       Excellence and Valour –  An individual, alive or deceased, who during their service has performed an extraordinary act of bravery and acted voluntarily and without regard for personal risk, exhibiting remarkable heroism, under circumstances of extreme personal danger. This act(s) must have occurred in a moment of clear and obvious danger and was clearly above and beyond the call or risk of ordinary duty/sense of obligation.

–       Memorial Scroll – a deceased person who was a leader or notable contributor to the development and/or delivery of uniformed services in the Cayman Islands who lost their life in the line of duty or while serving as a member of the Uniformed Services.

The awards ceremony will be carried live on CIGTV and Government channels.
