Cayman: Man charged with Drug Offenses and Attempted Assault on Officer following incident in Bodden Town
On the afternoon of Wednesday, 2 March, officers on patrol in the vicinity of Verneice Bodden Drive in Bodden Town, had cause to approach a suspicious vehicle parked in the area. The driver, who was the lone occupant, began to act aggressively and resisted officers’ attempts to detain him. At one point the man drove at high speed towards the officers, causing one of them to discharge a firearm towards the vehicle. The man was then able to make his escape in the vehicle, which officers subsequently located in a burned-out state nearby. Officers sustained minor injuries during the incident.
Officers subsequently conducted a search of the man’s home address and recovered a quantity of ganja, along with seven ganja plants. The man was located and arrested by officers later that day.
The man, age 35 of George Town, has now been charged with Resisting a Police Officer, Dangerous Driving, Attempted GBH, Production of Ganja, and Possession of Ganja with Intent to Supply.
He appears in court this morning, 7 March.
No injuries occurred as a result of the firearm being discharged. As per protocol, the RCIPS has notified the Office of the Ombudsman, and the use of firearm is being reviewed by both parties as part of the larger ongoing investigation.
