Court convicts Umar Patek over Bali bombing
Umar Patek, also known as the Demolition Man, was also found guilty today of conspiracy to commit terrorism and harbouring information about terrorism.
The 45-year-old was found to have played a key role in building the explosive devices used in the 2002 bombing of two nightclubs in Kuta in Bali which killed 202 people, including 88 Australians, and left scores more injured.
A number of the charges carried a possible death penalty, but prosecutors stopped short of calling for Patek to face a firing squad, instead demanding a sentence of life in prison.
However, the panel of five judges instead handed down a sentence of 20 years.
