Cayman National Choir & Orchestra give a resounding concert

Last Friday, April 1, the Cayman National Choir and Orchestra gave a splendid concert at The Harquail Theatre to a sold out packed house.

It was their first concert for a long time because of COVID and they were the first to have their concert cancelled last year when government cracked down on all events because of the sudden surge in Cayman’s COVID positive numbers. It was, therefore, fitting that this was the first event to be held indoors with most of the restrictions lifted.

However, it was notable that the choir was only a third of its normal size, and it was announced that two of its prominent members were missing at the last minute due to COVID.

“The Show must go on” and indeed it did. From the opening “Lord of the Dance” number to the close it was a most entertaining and inspiring evening with music from the classics to the very new, and Mozart to “I’ll Walk Again” when the whole audience joined in.

The choir was conducted by Sue Horrocks, founder of the Cayman National Choir and Jonathan Taylor, musical director of the Cayman National Orchestra.

Sadly, Mr. Taylor will be leaving Cayman to go back to England mid Summer and his last appearance will be in June.

They are, therefore, looking for a new Musical Director – see ieyenews story “HANDING OVER THE BATON”  at https://www.ieyenews.com/handing-over-the-baton/

When the concert finished the audience showed their pleasure with an instant long standing ovation.
