In the face of the current pandemic, a polluted planet, and an increasing incidence of diseases, the theme for World Health Day 2022 is a call for a green and healthy recovery that puts the health of individuals and the planet at the center of actions.

New 10-year strategy aims to scale up genomic surveillance
The WHO released a strategy to strengthen genomic surveillance around the world. PAHO’s COVID-19 Genomic Surveillance Regional Network, created at the start of the pandemic in 2020, is part of this new strategy to track diseases in the Americas.

In the run-up to this year’s Summit of the Americas, Dr. Carissa F. Etienne has called on countries to urgently invest in health systems that are “inclusive, comprehensive and responsive”.

Founded in 1902, it is the world’s oldest international public health agency. It serves as the Regional Office of WHO for the Americas and is the specialized health agency of the Inter-American system.
