Ukraine war: Tougher sanctions are unavoidable
After the latest atrocities in the Ukraine war, the EU responds with new sanctions that will affect the mechanical engineering industry, as well. Karl Haeusgen, president of Europe’s largest mechanical engineering industry association VDMA, supports the sanctions with the following quote:
Brussels/Frankfurt, 06/04/2022 – “The EU will respond to the continuation of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the recent atrocities committed by the Russian army with tougher sanctions. It is right that a united Europe continues to increase pressure on the Putin regime to force the Russian leader to end this war.It is right that a united Europe continues to increase pressure on the Putin regime to force the Russian leader to end this war.Karl Haeusgen, VDMA President
Although the export bans on technology will burden the mechanical engineering industry directly and the coal embargo will burden our industry indirectly, the VDMA supports the new measures as well as the sanctions already put into place by the EU beforehand. The population and industry must assume that there may be further escalations and thus further sanctions. “
