“Growing Communities” in Bodden Town

The Bodden Town District Council, along with the Hon. Mark Scotland and MLA Dwayne Seymour, are having a ground breaking ceremony of the Newland Heights Community Park.

Through the partnership with the Dart Cayman’s “Growing Communities” initiative, Minister Scotland and Mr. Seymour have committed to assisting several communities throughout Bodden Town in developing their respective community parks.

After several community meetings and public consultation with residents, Minister Scotland and Mr. Seymour have realised that although Cayman’s Development and Planning Law requires developers to alot a portion of property to the community by way of Lands for Public Purpose (LPP), several communities have been unable to find funding to develop these spaces for much needed social interaction. Some communities have had their LPP parcels sitting undeveloped for over 10 years.

Minister Scotland and Mr. Seymour are delighted to assist these communities in providing a peaceful and attractive environment for community gatherings and resident interaction and a safe area for children to play, contributing to a better Bodden Town and a better Cayman Islands.

The first three parks currently in the works are on Moonbeam Drive, Brightside Street and Hemlock Way, all in the Savannah-Newlands area off of Hirst Road.  All of these community parks are being made possible through the assistance and contribution by the Dart group of companies.  This assistance has also created much needed employment.

The ceremony will take place at Hemlock Way on Friday, June 29th 2012 at 4:00pm
