Grand Cayman, 28 June 2022 (RCIPS) – The RCIPS has seen an increase in the number of incidents that involve persons attending bars and nightclubs, while in possession of an offensive or restricted weapon. In several cases, the presence of these weapons has led to further and more violent crimes being committed, such as serious assaults, robberies and in some cases attempted murders and murders.

 The public is therefore being reminded that it is an offense to be in possession of a prohibited, restricted or offensive weapon, especially at night, at liquor licensed premises or other public venues. As such, no person should be attending any such establishment with a weapon in their possession.

The Penal Code (2022 Revision) — sections 78, 79 and 80, describes each offense in detail along with the penalties. Anyone who commits the offenses of possession of a restricted or offensive weapon is liable on conviction to a fine of $5000 and imprisonment for four years.
