Cayman Islands beat T&T in U-19s final
Defending champions Cayman Islands withstood a determined challenge from archrivals Trinidad and Tobago(T&T) to retain their North American and Caribbean Rugby Association (NACRA) U-19 Men’s rugby Championship title at the IPN University stadium in Mexico City .
Cayman Islands came away with the 20-10 victory.
Last year Cayman Islands defeated Trinidad and Tobago at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex in Cayman Islands with the final score tied eight-all, Cayman won the penalty kick-off to finish the battle.
This year’s win gave Cayman their fourth title in five years.
Leslie Figaro, president of the Trinidad and Tobago Rugby Football Union(TTRFU) who watched the final via a live stream on the internet congratulated the Cayman Islands on their victory and the Trinidad and Tobago players and coaches on a “battling” performance.
“Our youngsters played with great courage and determination during the tournament. While we wanted to win the title, after coming up short last year. We will go back to the drawing board and plan for next year. We (TTRFU) are proud of our team,” said Figaro.
