Cayman: Hon. Isaac Rankine Elected Deputy Speaker

Members in Parliament last Friday (21 April) elected Hon. Isaac Rankine as the new Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of the Cayman Islands. He is also the Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministries of Home Affairs and Planning, Agriculture, Housing and Infrastructure.
The vote was 11-4 over the opposing candidate, George Town South Member of Parliament (MP), Ms Barbara Conolly.
During a special meeting of the House following the swearing in of the new Governor, the House met to also change the membership of two House Committees – the Standing Business Committee which has responsibilities for setting the daily agenda of House sittings) and the Public Accounts Committee that scrutinises Government spending as well as other matters.
Following the resignation of Mr. Christopher Saunders from the Standing Business Committee, Premier and Committee Chair Hon. Wayne Panton nominated Deputy Premier Hon. Juliana O’Connor-Connolly who was elected to join members Hon. Kenneth Bryan, Hon. Andre Ebanks, Opposition Leader Hon. Roy McTaggart, and Red Bay MP Hon. Sir Alden McLaughlin.
On the Public Accounts Committee, the Premier nominated West Bay West MP Hon. McKeeva Bush who was elected to replace Hon. Dwayne Seymour who as a Minister appointed in the recent Cabinet reshuffle cannot be a member of the committee.
