Cayman: DES welcomes timely conclusion of CXC Investigation

The Department of Education Services (DES) welcomes the conclusion of the Caribbean Examination Council’s (CXC’s) investigation into concerns that the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Mathematics Paper 2 was breached in some Caribbean countries.

After meeting with the examining body and other regional education officials on Friday (19 May), DES Director Mark Ray expressed his satisfaction with the swift resolution of the issue.

“I am pleased with the timely manner in which the CXC concluded its investigation into this matter. This will enable our candidates to focus on preparing for upcoming examinations and be assured that their assessments in the subject will be impartial and valid.”

The DES Director also noted that CXC advised that this year, candidates’ final grades in mathematics would now be determined by their performance in the School Based Assessment and Paper 01 and not on Paper 2.

He further wished the candidates good luck in their upcoming exams.
