Following the rules

If you follow the rules for crossing the street at a crosswalk, you should be safe unless someone else breaks the rules and mows you down.
Their fault. Your loss.
I think the take away is that rules are a starting point, not the be-all, end-all.
When we’re setting out on a new design, we follow all the rules and best practices as our starting point. From there, we deviate away from the script—often into uncharted territory.
Why?
Breaking free of what everyone else does is the best way I know to break new ground. To go where no one has yet gone with respect to performance.
You can always buy prepackaged goods that follow the rules, but it’s the custom, handmade creations that standout from the crowd.
When it comes to deciding what High-End audio products to audition, look for the standouts—the ones that dare to be better.
