(George Town) Friday 20 July 2012 – Attention bug detectives and mangrove explorers! Thanks to the dedicated efforts of Trust supporters, the National Trust for the Cayman Islands will once again be holding a one-week summer camp for children aged 7 to 11. The camp will take place from 8am to 3pm during the week of 30 July, with an exciting array of field trips and activities planned.

“We are excited to be able to offer our camp this year despite being short staffed, if even for just a week,” said National Trust General Manager Christina McTaggart, who noted that campers will have the chance to get a hands-on taste of Cayman’s unique environment and cultural heritage.

Campers will have the chance to bug out on bugs, learning about Cayman’s smaller-sized inhabitants in fun and eye opening way. Kids will also be getting up close and personal with Blue Iguanas and butterflies on a field trip to the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park, and take part in a historic scavenger hunt in George Town. Organizers have also planned an outing to discover the coastal treasures found on Cayman’s beaches and mangroves.

Without enough of its own staff to run the camp, the Trust was fortunate that some qualified volunteers stepped forward to provide resources to make this much-loved summer tradition a reality in 2012.

“We truly appreciate the members of the community who have rallied together to make the camp possible,” said Ms McTaggart.

The camp cost of $175/week for members and $200/week for non-members includes all field trips, crafts and snacks, though campers must bring their own packed lunch.
