Minister of Border Control and Labour, Hon. Dwayne Seymour and Acting Postmaster General, Melissa Martinez-Ebanks attended the 25th Annual Caribbean Postal Union Conference and the Caribbean Council of Ministers of Postal Affairs (CCMPA) meeting, which took place in Kingston, Jamaica last week ( 11 to 15 September).
The conference, held under the theme “The CPU at 25: Evolving for Economic Sustainability”, was hosted by Jamaica’s Post and Telecommunications Department. Attendees at the event included Ministers and Postmaster Generals from across the Caribbean as well as a mix of regional and international postal officials, including representatives from the Universal Postal Union (UPU).
Minister Seymour participated in the CCMPA meeting to discuss recommendations and issues highlighted during the conference that required further ministerial deliberation.
In commenting on the conference, Acting Postmaster General Mrs Martinez-Ebanks said, “This year’s conference focused on issues affecting posts in the region and how the postal service can be positioned for the future while meeting the key United Nations sustainable development goals. The event’s theme supports the Cayman Islands Postal Service’s mandate for continual improvement and our goal to be our customers’ chosen provider for postal solutions.”
The UPU established the Caribbean Postal Union in 1997 to promote cooperation among posts in the Caribbean. Its aim is to have a sustainable postal network that provides a wide range of solutions to develop and support communication and logistic services in the region and internationally.
