Cayman: One man arrested for DUI following collision with pedestrians
From RCIPS
Shortly after 9:30PM on Thursday, 26 October, officers responded to a report of a collision on West Bay Road, just south of Lawrence Boulevard, involving two pedestrians and a Honda Fit. The pedestrians were crossing the road when they were struck by the Honda Fit, which continued travelling north along West Bay Road. Emergency medical services attended the location and both persons were transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital. One of the pedestrians received injuries which appear to be serious but non-life-threatening, while the other received non-life-threatening injuries. Both remain in hospital.
Shortly after the collision, the driver of the Honda Fit attended the West Bay Police Station. A breath test was conducted with a result of 0.194% and the driver, a man age 49 of West Bay, was arrested on suspicion of DUI. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
The RCIPS is taking this opportunity to remind the public of the dangers of drinking and driving. If you drink, make a plan that does not involve driving. Officers will be out this weekend conducting additional road blocks and patrols, with a focus on prosecuting persons found driving under the influence.
