Cayman: UPM Parliamentary Secretaries named
Premier, Hon. Juliana O’Connor-Connolly has advised her Excellency the Governor to appoint three Parliamentary Secretaries to support the Cabinet Ministers in the new United People’s Movement administration.
Hon. McKeeva Bush will serve as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Border Control and Culture, Hon. Dwayne Seymour and to Minister, the Hon. Jay Ebanks in the areas of Planning, Housing, Infrastructure, Transport and Development.
Member of Parliament, Mr. Bernie Bush will serve as Parliamentary Secretary to Deputy Premier and Minister for Commerce, Hon. Andre Ebanks and to Minister for Youth, Sports and Heritage, Hon. Isaac Rankine.
Member of Parliament Ms Heather Bodden remains Parliamentary Secretary to the Deputy Premier and Minister for Social Development, the Hon. Andre Ebanks and to the Minister for Tourism Hon. Kenneth Bryan.
In congratulations to the three Parliamentary Secretaries, Premier O’Connor-Connolly noted, “These appointments demonstrate that the UPM is united by the philosophy of all hands-on deck. We want to tap into the wealth of knowledge of all members of our team to ensure we can achieve all of our priorities and key initiatives this term”.
Hon. McKeeva Bush stated, “I welcome the opportunity to support the UPM administration in the role as a Parliamentary Secretary. There is much work to do. I’ve made it clear to the Premier and the Ministers, that for me this is about supporting both Ministers in their important work. My soul focus will be on the projects assigned to me as a Parliamentary Secretary.”
Mr. Bernie Bush reflected, “I look forward to supporting Deputy Premier, Hon. Andre Ebanks in the area of Commerce and to assisting Hon. Isaac Rankine build on the programmes and initiatives I was privileged to drive in the areas of Youth, Sports and Heritage. I appreciate both colleagues welcoming my assistance.
Mrs. Heather Bodden also noted “It is my pleasure to extend my time with both Ministers. As anyone who knows me is aware, beautification and supporting the needs of our most vulnerable are near and dear to my heart. I am grateful for the opportunity to continue the work I started and to build on the strong relationships I enjoy with both teams.”
Parliamentary Secretaries received their instruments of appointment from Her Excellency the Governor Mrs. Jane Owen during a brief presentation ceremony at Government House on Wednesday 5th December 2023. Appointments are made under section 54A of the Cayman Islands Constitution as amended.
