Cayman: 8:30 am Update – Severe Weather Advisory
The Cayman Islands National Weather Service and Hazard Management Cayman Islands (HMCI) are continuing to monitor a cold front that is affecting the Cayman Islands today. A Marine Warning for all three Islands remains in effect and the public is reminded to exercise extreme caution until further updates are provided.
The Ministry of Education has decided to close all schools today, Tuesday, 6 February 2024, due to the adverse weather conditions. All residents are encouraged to take every necessary precaution including exercising extreme caution on roadways.
The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) has issued an advisory of the following road closures due to the severe weather conditions. The red dots in the below images provide a visual indication of the locations:
North West Point Road (vicinity of Cracked Conch)
Junction of North West Point Road/Town Hall Road

Bodden Road
Mary Street
Boilers Road
Police barricades have been put in place to protect residents. The RCIPS asks that members of the public not obstruct the police in the execution of their duties by removing or moving the barricades.
Emergency response teams are actively monitoring the situation, and are prepared to assist as needed. The Red Cross shelter, located at 34 Huldah Avenue (across from the Farmers Market), is open and residents are encouraged to visit www.redcross.org.ky for more information about their shelter.
The Cayman Islands Government recommends that the public continue to refrain from engaging in any in-water activities on all three Islands, stay well back from the shoreline, and ensure that marine vessels remain in safe harbour and secured until further notice.
