George Town, April 11, 2024 – As part of the ongoing efforts under Phase 2 of the George Town Revitalization Project, the Ministry of Planning, Agriculture, Housing, Infrastructure, Transport & Development (PAHITD) announces a critical infrastructure enhancement activity. Robson Construction is set to undertake well drilling operations, a significant step towards advancing the resilience and environmental sustainability of our central business district. The operation is scheduled from 7:00 PM on Friday, April 12, through to 7:00 AM, Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the intersection of Edwards Street, Cardinal Ave, and Main Street.
Colin A. Lumsden, George Town Manager & Revitalization Initiative Coordinator, commented on the initiative: “This well drilling operation is pivotal for the George Town Revitalization Project. It marks progress in our infrastructure development and underscores our commitment to environmental sustainability. We understand the temporary inconveniences it may cause and have taken extensive measures to mitigate the impact on our community. We are grateful for your patience and support as we work towards a revitalized and sustainable George Town.”
The community can expect some noise, ground water discharge, and temporary traffic diversions during this period. The ministry assures that every possible measure, including noise reduction techniques and efficient water management practices, will be in place to minimize disruption. Signage and guidance for alternative routes will also be provided to facilitate movement around the affected area.
The George Town Revitalization Initiative represents a forward-thinking approach to urban development, aiming to improve the quality of life for all who live, work, and visit George Town. As we continue to invest in our city’s future, we remain dedicated to keeping the community informed and involved in the transformation process.
