Cayman: Preparedness Should Continue as Cayman Expects Rainy Weather

Grand Cayman, 15 June 2024 – The National Weather Service (NWS) continues to monitor a broad area of low pressure likely to cause increased rainfall over the Cayman Islands from tomorrow Sunday 16 through Monday 17 June 2024.

The public is encouraged to continue to remain vigilant with preparedness activities as forecasters continue to gather data and share information as it becomes available via official sources.

Government agencies including Hazard Management Cayman Islands are currently having proactive conversations to ensure that resources and processes are in place, if required. ”While there is not a present need for alarm as we are still in the monitoring stages, we do urge vigilance and awareness at this time. Our recent learnings show how quickly a major incident can develop so we are erring on the side of caution. As such, HMCI is initiating its normal procedures so that should there be a change of circumstance, we can respond expediently and provide the National Hazard Management mechanism with best recommendations”, said HMCI Director Danielle Coleman.

The National Weather Service releases multiple daily forecasts, at 6am, 12pm and 4pm respectively. There will also be supplemental releases shared daily via official Government communication channels at 6pm through this monitoring period.
