Cayman Bulletin – Brace for Heavy Rains, Potential Flooding
Brace for Heavy Rains, Potential Flooding
Grand Cayman, 20 June 2024 – A tropical wave is expected to enter the western Caribbean region supporting rainy weather conditions and bringing possible thundershowers over the Cayman Islands from tonight, Thursday, 20 June through Saturday, 22 June, with rain spreading mainly over Grand Cayman.
The Cayman Islands National Weather Service advises that higher than normal tides are expected, leading to possible saltwater intrusion in areas that have historically been impacted by “king tides”. The higher tides and rainfall associated with the tropical wave will pose a risk of flooding across the Cayman Islands.
Additionally, the Cayman Islands can expect southeasterly winds at 15-20 knots with rough seas for Friday in which a small craft advisory will be in effect.
The National Weather Service notes the National Hurricane Center advisories on Tropical Storm Alberto over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico. This system does not pose a threat to the Cayman Islands.
