Athletes in four sports have been securing precious quota places for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 on the last weekend of the Olympic Qualifier Series in Budapest.

An interactive festival-like event at an urban park welcomed 20,000 spectators today, staging events in BMX Freestyle, Skateboarding, Sport Climbing and Breaking. The Budapest scores are added to what athletes’ achieved at the first Olympic Qualifier Series event in Shanghai.

Saturday was BMX Freestyle finals day and Anthony Jeanjean showed why he will be a gold medal contender at his home Olympics with a superb display on both runs. The Frenchman is thrilled with his form a month before the Paris 2024 Games take place:

“What an incredible weekend after my first victory in Shanghai, to get a second victory here is great. I’m going to take a few days off and then get back into training so I can be in top form possible going into Paris.”

Kieran Reilly of Great Britain finished third to make his Olympic dream come true: “To be going to Paris 2024 just feels amazing, I called my mum straight away and as soon as she got off the call she was in tears and that means the world that my family are proud.”

Later in the day American cyclists dominated the Women’s final, with Tokyo silver medalist Hannah Roberts in first place ahead of teammate Perris Benegas. China’s Sun Sibei and Deng Yawen were third and fourth.

The Speed Climbing finals were rescheduled for better weather conditions and when they got underway there was success for Poland in the Women’s final with Aleksandra Kalucka a fraction quicker than Zhou Yafei of China. But there was success for China in the Men’s final through Wu Peng.

Two other high achievers scored the most points in the Boulder & Lead discipline to qualify for the finals and lead the way to Paris. In the women’s event Brooke Raboutou (USA) was the best climber by a distance in the semi-finals while Tokyo 2020 gold medalist Alberto Gines Lopez (SPN) came out top in Men’s qualification for Sunday’s final.

Breaking will make its Olympic debut in Paris 2024, and in Budapest the pre-qualifiers took place on Saturday, in which B-Boys and B-Girls qualified for the final day of competition which will take place tomorrow.

All four skateboarding finals will take place on Sunday with Men’s and Women’s events in the Park and Street disciplines.
