In our “Road to Paris” series, Partners talk about some of the essential support they will be providing and reveal their excitement at helping to shape an unforgettable Olympic experience for fans and athletes alike. Here, we speak with Cédric Borremans, Head of the Olympics and Paralympics Department, Business Strategy Division for Toyota Europe.

What is Toyota most excited about for Paris 2024?

What we are most excited about is seeing the athletes reach their full potential with the community, with the spectators in iconic locations and having contributed to bringing them in the best possible state of mind with our solutions, mobility solutions.

When it comes to preparing and delivering the Olympic and Paralympic Games for Paris, can you tell us what this involves for the Toyota teams?

Toyota started to work on Paris 2024 in January 2019. That’s five years before the Games that Toyota started defining what type of vehicles and what type of solutions for the athletes we want to bring to the Games. The accessible people mover (APM) is a perfect example, and was one of the biggest projects that we focused on. This required a full redesign, engineering and full manufacturing of a brand new vehicle, which will be produced specifically to support the athletes during the Games, as well as spectators with mobility constraints.

How is Toyota supporting sustainability for the Olympic Games Paris 2024?

We took the challenge of Paris 2024 to heart. The Organising Committee seeks a 50 per cent reduction in carbon footprint versus previous Games editions. In order to help them make the Games more sustainable, we went for a vehicle mix and used all the technologies that we provide, such as hybrids, plug-in hybrids, battery, electric and fuel cell, hydrogen powered vehicles.

What is Toyota hoping to bring to the Games?

What Toyota wants bring is support for the Games and support for the athletes. We want to bring them to the starting line in the best possible mindset and physical condition through our mobility solutions.
