Eritrean migrants fleeing indefinite military conscription are being detained and exploited in Sudan. Often falling prey to unscrupulous smuggling networks who abandon them or worse, families like Mihret Gebru’s are left in despair. As the situation grows more hostile and dangerous, Gebru pleads for international intervention and safe migration routes. Read more…

After narrowly escaping in 2017, she now fights for awareness, urging the public to recognize and report signs of modern slavery to prevent others from enduring similar fates.

Californians will decide on forced labor ban in 2024
In November 2024, California voters will decide on ACA 8, a measure to eliminate forced labor in state prisons, ending a practice dating back to 1850.
