The “Inhouse Farming – Feed & Food Show” is the showcase for self-contained agricultural and food systems of the future. The broad technical programme accompanying the DLG (German Agricultural Society) B2B exhibition platform will address the key issues of tomorrow’s value chain at the exhibition grounds in Hanover,  Germany, from 12 to 15 November 2024. The numerous events offer inspiration, expertise and cross-industry contacts. “Inhouse Farming” – self-contained agricultural and food systems –  optimally complements the world’s leading trade fair for livestock technologies, EuroTier, and EnergyDecentral, the leading international platform for decentralised energy supply, which take place in parallel.  Together, the three platforms offer new perspectives and business models for the agri-food sector.

Premiere for Inhouse Farming Event 2024

On the even before the Inhouse Farming – Feed & Food Show 2024 opens its doors in Hanover, the premiering Inhouse Farming Event 2024 will take place on Monday, 11 November, at 6 p.m. in the Convention Center (CC) on the exhibition grounds in Hanover. The high-calibre networking event brings together visionaries and experts from the two up-and-coming markets of indoor farming and renewable energy production. Representatives from the two sectors will gather to discuss and identify synergies and new investment opportunities. With the title “Tackling the elephant in the room: renewable energies for future farming and food systems” the event is aimed at innovative companies from the renewable energy and controlled environment agriculture (CAE) sectors, political decision-makers, research and educational institutions and the trade media. The event is organised by DLG e.V. and FarmTechSociety.

DLG Spotlight Inhouse Farming: Focus on insects

How does the automated breeding of insects as high-quality protein feed work on the farm? How can this be used to realise circular economy approaches? What are the challenges of industrially breeding insects as a food source? These are the questions that will be addressed at the DLG Spotlight Inhouse Farming in Hall 24 with selected practice-orientated exhibits. The defined presentation area offers trade visitors a compact opportunity for intensive technical discussions and insights into selected technologies and solutions for the new agricultural and food systems with a focus on insects from 12 to 15 November.

 12 November 2024

10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Insects Theme Day

 The “Insects” theme day focusses on the potential of insects as an alternative source of protein. In addition to being used as animal feed, farmed insects or their constituents can also be used in the production of meat substitutes, in other foods and in the manufacture of cosmetics. Experts from science and practice will provide information on the current situation and market-ready concepts on the theme day.

10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Aquaculture, Aquaponics & Algae Theme Day

 The theme day will focus on the current state of aquaculture and the question of how and where it will continue to develop. This sector is already one of the fastest growing areas of agriculture worldwide. Which of its promising potentials will be utilised in a few years’ time? Practitioners, fish farmers and experts will get to the bottom of these issues in short presentations and will be available to answer questions afterwards. Many examples of best practice will show interested parties what the future and growth in water can look like, with a particular focus on aquatic indoor systems and algae. The theme day offers plenty of space for professional dialogue and networking.

9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Investors’ Breakfast 

The Investors’ Breakfast opens Thursday at 9:30 a.m. on the DLG Expert Stage in Hall 24. In addition to culinary delights, there will also be exciting ideas on current topics relating to disruptive technologies in the agri-food sector. The event is aimed at institutional investors, jury members, start-ups and selected market experts.

 11:30 a.m., DLG Impulse Pitches Inhouse Farming Feed & Food

The DLG Impulse Pitches are a meeting place for pioneers and visionaries – this award focusses on products, concepts and technologies with an innovative character and practical relevance. A jury of experts has selected five nominees in advance from numerous international applications and on the basis of strict selection criteria. They will have the opportunity to convince the expert jury of their innovations in live pitches in the public final round starting at 11:30 a.m. on the Expert Stage in Hall 24. The awards ceremony will take place immediately afterwards.

The Start-Up Showcase will take place immediately after the DLG Impulse Pitches winner has been honoured. All exhibiting start-ups have the opportunity to present their products and services .

10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Feed & Food for Future 

  • Simulation game: From barn to vertical farm

The conversion of barns into vertical farms offers innovative opportunities for sustainable and future-orientated agriculture. But before this vision can become reality, a number of hurdles need to be overcome in order to give farmers the necessary planning security. An interdisciplinary exchange of experts will shed light on how the synergy between the various specialist areas – agriculture, construction, building technology and data technology – can transform the former animal barn into a state-of-the-art vertical farm and utilise its potential to make regional agriculture more sustainable and efficient. 

  • Alternative sources of protein: Driving forward sustainable agriculture with new technologies.

 The further processing of biowaste from households and the food industry into nutrient-rich animal feed reduces food losses and at the same time saves raw materials that are used to produce conventional animal feed. In addition, the range of alternative feedstuffs extends from insect protein, algae and microorganisms to the use of earthworms. In order to reduce the environmental impact of existing resources and utilise them more efficiently, both research and development in these areas are constantly progressing. The aim is to offer farmers new, sustainable opportunities in the area of animal feed in the long term.
