CARIBBEAN YOUTH FILM FESTIVAL IN ITS ELEVENTH YEAR
The Caribbean Youth Film Festival is excited to be celebrating their eleventh year in working with young people in the area of filming and production.
The festival started as the Youth Film Festival spearheaded by Dove Productions alongside Rise (St. Lucia) Inc eleven years ago and has partnered with a host of agencies including UNICEF, the US Embassy in Barbados, USAID, the OECS Secretariat, the Government of St. Lucia, FilmTT (Trinidad and Tobago) and the 72 Hour Project (London), to educate youth on various subjects through filmmaking. The festival was nominated for “Idea of the Year” in 2014 at the Saint Lucia Chamber of Commerce Business Awards. In 2016 the festival was rebranded as The Caribbean Youth Film Festival placing much emphasis on becoming a Caribbean event with encouraged participation from the Caribbean. This project has given birth to the online network CUTtv, a Film Club, the Independence Film Competition, the Easter Youth Film Camp and most recently Island Ripple, an online video magazine show.
Dove Productions, founded by Colin Weekes in 1993, has always been at the forefront of video production and audio/visual material for companies and organizations locally and internationally. He served on the board for Jazz on the Square for its 15 year run and went on to be the founding contributor of many successful productions including Bonding (10 Part Series on Parenthood), Junior Jazz and The Caribbean Youth Film Festival.
The theme for this year’s festival is Folk Tale Chronicles, celebrating local characters from fabled folk stories, by exposing our budding filmmakers to the variety of characters in our culture, with the intent of having them produce short films on three characters.
The festival will run from August 5th to 23rd 2024.
