At Premier McKeeva Bush’s highly anticipated postponed meeting last Wednesday (8) at the Mary Miller Hall to reveal the package of new revenue measures to replace the ‘community enhancement fee’ he had a big swipe at Cayman’s media.

In particular he mentioned both “The Caymanian Compass” and Cayman News Service (CNS) of misleading and hysterical headlines that created international media frenzy. He had earlier, in an email, described CNS as a “wutless scandal sheet” but his real attack was aimed at the “Compass”.

Bush kept saying he had taken enough “licks” from the only print media house and accused the owner of abusing his position and being irresponsible. He said he would be writing a letter to the newspaper and dared them to publish it. I suspect he will be rewarded.

Having looked at some of the “Compass’ ” recent editorials (just checked) I must admit I couldn’t find anything that could cause the premier’s anger so I must be missing something. Did they suggest the premier was “vote buying” because he mentioned that at around the same time.

“I am trying to help people at a time when businesses are not concerned and don’t understand that there are people who can’t pay their electrical bill,” he said in his denial at the accusation.

That iNews Cayman didn’t get included made me wonder if I should, therefore, be insulted?

However, Mr. Bush, did save his criticism of me, and this online news outlet, at a recent church service I was at.  Being singled out in church and not favourably was maybe an even better place than the Mary Miller Hall.  Maybe he was trying to bring Hell and Brimstone down upon my head.

If he was, he almost succeeded………
