Fox News Wants More Democrats Tuning In, Trump Not Happy

Fox News is making moves as the November election approaches to appeal to more Democrats and independents to join its conservative audience base, according to a report by Axios.
“I think if you build it, they will come. And independents, Democrats are coming to our shows more and more,” Fox News anchor Bret Baier told Axios at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, where he and fellow anchor Martha MacCallum were covering events for the network.
Their coverage has included interviews with several key Democrats, including nominee Kamala Harris’ campaign co-Chair Cedric Richmond, Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
Baier and MacCallum had been tapped to host a debate on Sept. 4 between Harris and former President Donald Trump.
However, Trump said Monday that the Harris campaign told his team she would not participate in the Fox debate.
Earlier this year, an Axios/Harris 100 poll showed that more Democrats and independents are coming to trust Fox News.
MacCallum said the network’s success is coming from reaching a broader audience.
“We’re seeing that when there are big news nights, we’re getting tuned in from all corners,” McCallum said.
Trump has criticized Fox News in recent weeks, posting on Truth Social that the channel’s July 23 interview of Minnesota governor and then-newly designated Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz was making him “fight battles that I shouldn’t have to fight.”
Early in July, he blasted Fox for reporting on a what he dubbed a “fake confidential Democratic poll” that showed him beating President Joe Biden but losing to Vice President Kamala Harris.
Trump wrote: “What’s up with FOX? I do better with CNN!!!”
According to a source close to the Trump campaign, the former president has complained to Fox about the network’s selective coverage of polls.
Just over a week ago, Fox heavily promoted a Marquette poll showing him 6 points behind Harris while ignoring polls released at the same time by CNBC and Rasmussen showing him ahead.
