Miss Cayman Islands 2010/2011, Cristin Alexander, received a Cayman Islands Signature Collection pendant donated by Kirk Freeport on Friday (18 August).

Kirk Freeport Director Debbie Guyton presented the pendant and necklace to Cristin on the eve of her departure (Saturday, 19 August) to São Paulo, Brazil for the Miss Universe pageant that takes place 12 September.

“The gift is Cayman’s contribution to a charity raffle at the Miss Universe Pageant. Each country represented at Miss Universe is required to send a gift which is usually auctioned off and the proceeds given to charity,” explained Miss Cayman Islands Committee’s Ariana Rahamut.

“I am thrilled to take this beautiful gift to Brazil,” 24-year-old, approximately 6 foot Cristin said. “Our warm thanks to Kirk Freeport for their generosity.”

“We are delighted to present this token to represent the Cayman Islands at Miss Universe,” Ms. Guyton said. The gift, the principal piece of a set that includes a ring and earrings, was designed in-house by Kirk Freeport to capture the essence and brilliance of the Cayman Islands, she explained.

A unique feature of the pendant is that it showcases three diamonds to symbolise the three islands of Cayman. It has 14 carat white gold waves that swirl inwards from a circle of blue topaz stones that signify the Caribbean Sea, Ms. Guyton said.

The largest diamond is 0.22 carat, which corresponds to the length of Grand Cayman (22 miles) while the two smaller stones are 0.14 and 0.10 carat, which correspond to the lengths of Cayman Brac and Little Cayman (14 and 10 miles respectively), she outlined.

Ministry of Finance, Tourism and Development’s Deputy Director Pat Ulett added her gratitude to Kirk Freeport for providing Cayman’s contribution to the Miss Universe auction. “We wish Cristin the best of luck,” she said on behalf of all present.
