Hello and welcome back,

I’m penning this week’s Newsletter after returning from a week in London where I had the privilege of introducing colleagues hosting interviews at the Reuters IMPACT conference.

Reuters IMPACT takes a deeper dive into climate and sustainability issues – topics that are also a key focus in our Reuters NEXT conversations.

Among the news from Reuters IMPACT and its sister Energy Transition conference:

• Unilever CEO Hein Schumacher revealed that the company is working on sustainability deals with its top 10 retail customers, including Walmart, aimed at cutting greenhouse gas emissions and minimising waste in its supply chain.
• IKEA CEO Jesper Brodin said home deliveries from the world’s No. 1 furniture brand will be made by electric vehicles by 2025
• JPMorgan global head of sustainable solutions Chuka Umunna said the impact of a political backlash against ESG issues in the US is overstated.

We’ll be picking up the thread of many climate conversations – and what they mean for business and politics – post COP29 at Reuters NEXT New York on Dec. 10-11.

Coming up NEXT: 

World Bank President Ajay Banga speaks with my colleague, White House Correspondent Andrea Shalal, in a Reuters NEXT Newsmaker on Oct. 15. The World Bank is under intense pressure to boost lending to developing countries and emerging markets facing trillions of dollars of annual costs to deal with climate change, and to address poverty and boost economic growth. Banga will discuss his ambitious goals to retool the 70-year-old institution in this live interview.
