USA Presidential elections forces Miss Cayman Pageant postponement

In a press release issued by the The Miss Cayman Islands Committee, the Miss Cayman pageant scheduled to have taken place in September has been postponed at a date to be decided.

The release said the postponement is beyond their control as Miss Universe organisers have pushed back that pageant until December because of the presidential election in the United States.

The release says:

“This postponement comes on the heels of the date change for the Miss Universe Pageant, which has been pushed back to December 2012 because of U.S. Presidential Elections. The Miss Cayman Islands franchise holder (Ministry of Tourism) is mandated to send the current queen to the Miss Universe Pageant during her reign; therefore we are obligated to comply.”

On 21st April a Miss Cayman Fundraiser was held at the Ugland Motor Museum under the title of “Faashion in the Fast Lane”.

The event, attended by premier McKeeva Bush, raised over CI$22,000. Local and international models graced the runway in fashions from Sand Angels, Celeb Boutique and Cayman Couture. Makeup was donated by Kirk Freeport and hairstylist Pasquale Caselle offered his services complimentary.
The night was filled with a host of prizes donated by Magnum Jewellers, who also sponsored the models’ accessories, Cayman Airways, Guy Harvey’s Grill, Grand Old House, Cayman Private Charters, Luis Vallecillo, Eclipze Hair Design and Day Spa, Cayman Automotive, Strand Dental Clinic and Trisha’s Roses. Jacques Scott donated the wine, Tortuga provided rum cakes and Cracked Conch sponsored the canapés. A-Z Home and Garden also sponsored the event.

Miss Cayman Committee Chair, Lynn Bodden, after confirming the $22,000 raised said, “The venue was one of kind, special thanks to our wonderful hosts, Mr. and Mrs. Andreas Ugland. This event could not have been possible without their support and generosity. This was excellent exposure for our reigning Miss Cayman, Lindsay Japal, and an experience that will better prepare her for the upcoming Miss Universe Pageant.”

The franchise holder is the Cayman Islands Ministry of Tourism and the pageant is subsidised by government (unless cut by the 2012 budget) at a cost

of $100,000.
