Honourable Premier Juliana O’Connor-Connolly has concluded her impactful participation in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2024, a significant forum that underscored the Cayman Islands’ dedication to strengthening international relationships and tackling shared global challenges.

The Premier’s final day featured pivotal bilateral discussions, including a notable meeting with Lord Collins of Highbury, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Deputy Leader of the House of Lords, and Lord in Waiting (Government Whip). “Engaging with Lord Collins was an invaluable opportunity to discuss our shared commitment to advancing social justice,” Premier O’Connor-Connolly stated. “His advocacy for equitable policies aligns with our vision for an inclusive society in the Cayman Islands, and I look forward to exploring collaborative initiatives that can drive real change.” (The Commonwealth nations represent 57 independent countries, with 2.7  billion citizens, with more than 60% under the age of 29) 

Throughout the week, the Premier participated in critical sessions addressing urgent issues such as climate resilience, economic diversification, and sustainable development. Her contributions resonated deeply with fellow leaders, fostering a collaborative spirit that promises to benefit all Commonwealth nations.

Chief Officer Eric Bush, who accompanied the Premier, remarked, “The connections forged during CHOGM 2024 are transformative. These relationships will enable us to enhance our strategies in trade and environmental resilience. We are committed to translating our discussions into actionable strategies that will propel our development forward.”

As the Premier prepares to return to the Cayman Islands, she expressed her gratitude to the people and government of Samoa for their warmth and kindness in hosting a successful event. “I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Lord Marland, Chairman of CWEIC, for the invitation, and to the dedicated and incredible team at CWEIC and all the partners involved in making this event a success. Our steadfast commitment to sustainable practices and resilient economic policies will guide our initiatives in the months to come. Working together with our Commonwealth partners, we aspire to create a more equitable and sustainable world,” she affirmed.

The Cayman Islands now stands poised to embark on a renewed path, enriched by the relationships and insights cultivated at CHOGM 2024, as it seeks to enhance its role as a proactive member of the global community.
