Welcome Our New National Museum Director, Dr. Veerle Poupeye
The Cayman Islands National Museum Board is pleased to announce Dr. Veerle Poupeye as the new Director. A renowned curator, scholar, and cultural leader, Dr. Poupeye brings a wealth of experience, including her former role as Director of the National Gallery of Jamaica, where she led key initiatives to enhance its cultural and educational impact. She is also a seasoned curator known for organizing significant exhibitions throughout the Caribbean and is the first Director of the Cayman Islands National Museum to also serve as Curator.
In addition to her curatorial expertise, Dr. Poupeye has contributed to academia as a lecturer and author on Caribbean art and culture. Her leadership is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the Museum, strengthening its role as a cultural hub for the Cayman Islands.
“We are excited to welcome Dr. Poupeye,” said Susan Arch Parsons, Deputy-Chair of the Museum Board. “Her experience and vision are a perfect fit for our mission to preserve and celebrate Cayman’s heritage, and we look forward to the growth and innovation she will bring.”
Dr. Poupeye began her new role on November 4, 2024, and is eager to connect with the Museum staff, stakeholders, and the Caymanian community.
