REUTERS NEXT: Analysing the US election
From Reuters NEXT
In the week since Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election, Reuters journalists in Washington DC, across the United States, and around the world have been delving into what it means for business, politics and society at large.
Wall Street executives cheered the prospect of business-friendly regulations, although some were uneasy about the reelected president’s unpredictability. Banks are expected to be among the big winners, with Trump likely to usher in regulators who will probably ease capital rules and merger approvals. And industry groups are rapidly drawing up wish listsfor lighter regulation to present to the incoming administration.
Trump has been vocal about his desire to introduce tariffs, carry out mass deportations of illegal immigrants and reduce the corporate tax rate. Our Reuters World News podcast dedicated a special episode to a close analysis of his pledge to end the war in Ukraine in a day.
And more clues about policy are coming each day as Trump lines up his new Administration, including “border czar” Tom Homan. Marco Rubioand Mike Waltz are both tipped for senior positions and we took a look at who else is in the running.
We also took a deep dive into how what was anticipated to be a record tight race for the White House turned into a walk-in for Trump and a rout for Harris.
We will, of course, also be looking at the implications of the election from all angles at the Reuters NEXT New York summit on Dec. 10-11, with speakers including:
- IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva
- Spain Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares Bueno
- Sweden Finance Minister Elizabeth Svantesson
- Goldman Sachs Chief Executive Officer David Solomon
- Alphabet & Google President & Chief Investment Officer Ruth Porat
- Ferrari Chief Executive Officer Benedetto Vigna
- NYDSF Superintendent Adrienne Harris
- OpenAI Chief Financial Officer Sarah Friar
Look out for more speakers to be announced in the coming weeks, along with details of the two-day agenda.
