Friday, 24th January 2025 | 5:00pm JST / 8:00am GMT
As Vice Finance Minister for International Affairs, Mimura oversees Japan’s currency policy and coordinates economic policy with other countries, a crucial post amid uncertainty about the U.S. and Chinese economies and emerging signs of protectionism.
Mimura, who has spent nearly a third of his 35-year government career at Japan’s banking regulator, helped set up the Financial Stability Board during the 2008-2009 global financial crisis to reform financial regulation and supervision during a three-year stint at the Bank for International Settlements in Basel.
Reuters Senior Correspondent-at-Large Takaya Yamaguchi will lead a discussion with Mimura about Japan’s plans to cooperate with other major countries on policy in an uncertain environment and its response to currency volatility.
