Go Pro Diving Hosts Instructor Development Course

Go Pro Diving conducted their most recent Instructor Development Course (IDC) with PADI Platinum Course Director Ash McKnight in June 2012. Five individuals converged on Grand Cayman in order to follow a dream– to become a PADI Instructor.

All of the students arrived on Grand Cayman early to complete an internship with Go Pro Diving. This internship prepared the students well for the IDC and also for their future careers in the diving Industry.

The internship involved various practical experiences, including assisting our team of instructors in the day to day operations of a busy 5-star dive centre. The students gained valuable knowledge and skills that will serve them well in their future as dive leaders.

Once the students attained the rating of PADI Dive Master they were then eligible to take part in the PADI IDC. As with every course you take in life there is always a little bit of apprehension and trepidation on the student’s part.

The fear of failing is always a contributing factor to the case of nerves many students experience on the first day.

These nerves quickly dissipated with the help and professionalism of the experienced and knowledgeable PADI staff instructors at Go Pro Diving who teach the programs on a regular basis. During the IDC, candidates learn how to teach the PADI system of education. One of the key aspects to the IDC experience and continuing on as a great Instructor is that one must be able to teach in three settings: the classroom,

confined and open water.

As part of the course, candidates had to deliver presentations in these three areas to their IDC buddies. The presentations were graded by the staff; instant feedback was given by the instructor so the student could learn from any mistakes.

The IDC ran for one week, followed by the PADI Instructor Exam, which is a two day assessment conducted by a member of PADI’s office staff. The candidates were evaluated on their teaching presentations, had to write two exams (one for theory and one for PADI standards) and were also assessed on their rescue and dive skills.

Go Pro Diving is proud to say that each one of the five students passed the program, and they are all fully fledged diving instructors!

These five candidates were thrown together because of a common goal, now that goal has been achieved they now have the credentials to find work in exotic far flung places, this is something that others can only ever dream of doing.

Go Pro Diving is a PADI 5 Star Instructor facility located on the stunning Caribbean Island of Grand Cayman. Go Pro Diving are the Island leaders for professional diver training.
