Japan is considered as one of the most pacifist countries in the world since the end of the Second World Wide War, in which it unconditionally surrendered to the Alliance forces led by the USA. Since then it contributes to development and reconstructions in the developing countries where poverty and a lack of resources prevail. Even during wars, it helps the governments in Afghanistan and Iraq to reconstruct the broken-down infrastructure, without any military intervention.
As a result of the developments in Japan, South Korean Politicians call for having nuclear bombs and developing the range of its missiles to form a balance of power to face any potential threats from neighboring Japan. South Korea’s President Lee Myung-bak has asked Japan to compensate the South Korean for the sexual slavery that was known comfort women as South Korean women were forced into prostitution by the Japanese forces during World War II if Japan ‘s emperor wants to visit South Korea. But the Japanese look reluctant to do so.
The Fukoshima nuclear disaster in May 2011 left more than 10,000 dead and a lot infected with nuclear radiations. The Japanese government preferred not to disclose the scale of the fiasco for national security. Some analysts said the negative effects of this would continue for generations to come. Japan lies on a belt of active quakes, but the security measures couldn’t repel the strength of the quakes, even some countries in Europe have cancelled plans to build nuclear reactors in the future, some put a timetable to shut down their own reactors. Calls for shutting down the nuclear reactors fell on deaf ears as the government put the reactors in motion with new safety measures.
Instability in the governance, the government stays only for months that put the friends and neighbors confused, fearing that the right wing would take power, thus making uncalculated steps, which could harm their interests in the already fragile region. It seems that early elections will take place in next October because of tax affairs.
The Japanese government has reopened talks with North Korea that was stalled for four years following nuclear bomb tests in 2008. This step would infuriate South Korea as the latter try to stoke defections to weaken Kim Jong-un’s regime. Recently, the Japanese coast guards have detained 14 pro-China activists at disputed Senkaku or Diaoyu islands and delivered them to China. This measure has angered the Chinese, demonstrations against Japan have been seen in many cities and regions, and some attacked Japanese companies and restaurants. Pro-China activists have called for protests in front of Japanese embassies and consulates on Sept 18.
