A special opening ceremony held this week (Tuesday, 18 September), gave 26 homeowners and occupying residents an uplifting sense of pride.

As part of the National Housing Development Trust (NHDT) Affordable Housing programme, and following some major re-construction at the Windsor Park re-development site, NHDT and its team were able to provide new concrete homes for families.

These 26 homes were built with stronger foundations, proper sustainability and more functionality.

Introduced in 2003, the programme provides assistance to low income families who have dreams of obtaining a mortgage and owning their own home.

Addressing the residents, Minister responsible for housing Hon. Mike Adam, MBE, JP said “My ministry and I understand the financial hardships that many families face in owning a suitable home. This is why, at the heart and soul of our housing strategy, we’re committed to go the extra mile for our clients in providing affordable homes.”

He added, “I commend the National Housing Development Trust and local contractors for their hard work and on-going commitment to this project. I could not have asked for a better team.”

The Ministry’s vision is that these new homes will strengthen families which in turn, will create a stronger and more cohesive community.

NHDT Chairman Rayal Bodden said, “By unleashing these dreams and aspirations to communities as well as individuals, we will bring about greater certainty. Certainty that will give potential homeowners the confidence needed to invest.”

Thankful for her new home, one of the community’s first homeowners Julie Brown said, “Government surely upheld its promise to get us back into our homes – and because of that, we are forever grateful. I look forward to happy moments in my new abode.”
