Kenilworth Woman wins Vacation in Cayman Islands At Kick-Off Party for Kenilworth United Fund

Mary Johnson of Kenilworth won a four-night stay for two at the Westin Casuarina Resort and Spa in the Grand Cayman Islands during the Party on the Parkway™ held last night to kick off this year’s fund raising activities for the Kenilworth United Fund, said event organizer Candice Kuhnen.

Her prize included a complimentary four nights at the Westin Casuarina on Seven Mile Beach, plus free air fare on Cayman Airways, airport-transfer fees and tickets to top attractions, all for two vacationers. The drawing was held at Sherwin-Williams, 614 Green Bay Road, the last stop at the evening’s progressive dinner.

“We believe this was a tremendous event,” said Bill Hayes from Kenilworth Asset Management, another stop during the evening. “It was a great way to meet our fellow business owners and neighbors. We look forward to watching it grow and participating in the years to come.”

The event raised more than $3,000 for KUF. Featuring the progressive dinner and a silent auction hosted by businesses on Park Drive and Green Bay Road, the community event was designed to bring residents and businesses closer together while highlighting KUF’s annual Porch Light Night fundraiser, which this year will be Monday, Oct. 1.

Valerie and John Plunkett, among the event’s partners, said, “We met many lovely people who really enjoyed saying hello to local merchants and having some fun with their neighbors. The Party also generated a lot of interest in our new firm, John Plunkett Interiors Direct.”

Added caterer Chrisi DiClementi-Harlow from A La Carte, “The event was a success! Even the weather was perfect. It was for a great cause and I was able to make new connections with the Kenilworth community. Everyone had a fun time. And I won a free facial at Fenner Plastic Surgery!”

The Kenilworth United Fund started more than 80 years ago and more than 43 percent of the residents in Kenilworth support local agencies with annual contributions.

The Party on the Parkway™ brought together local businesses with area restaurants that provided food as neighbors walked from one location to the next.

Participating businesses and food vendors included Carol Knott Interiors, Travel 100 Group, Cafe Aroma, The Happ Inn & Taco Nano, Federalist Antiques, Eclissi Italian Restaurant, Hackley & Associates Architects, Caffé Buon Giorno, Fenner Plastic Surgery, Convito Café, Miele Galleries, The Noodle Café, RRB Cycles, Marco Roma, Kenilworth Asset Management, A la Carte, Sherwin – Williams and Pinstripes, Bowling Bocce Bistro.

Event partners were Aruba Tourism Authority; Cayman Islands Department of Tourism, Edward A. Anderson Company, The Big Picture Home Theater Co., Barrington Pools, Relax the Back Store, Smart Gardener, Winnetka Fitness, John Plunkett Design, JonathansPortraits.com, North Shore Movers & Storage, Effective Air and Just How You Like It.

The event was organized by event planner Candice Kuhnen, president and founder of ABC Communications, a full-service marketing firm based in Glencoe and celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
