Local Kiwanians earn recognition at statewide convention

The Lee County and LaBelle area Kiwanis clubs attended the 95th Annual Florida District Convention in Tampa. The Florida District of Kiwanis covers the state of Florida and the Cayman Islands. Forty-three Kiwanis members attended the convention to represent the 14 clubs in the area. Two local Kiwanians were recognised for their achievements at the convention: Bruce Boyd and Hannah Pelle. Robert Jarrett was inducted into office as 2012-13 lieutenant governor.

Boyd, 2011-12 Division 19 Kiwanis lieutenant governor, a member of the Lehigh Acres club, was awarded the Otis Jenkins Award for outstanding leadership to Division 19 and Florida District.

Hannah Pelle, Division 19 Florida Kiwanis trustee, a member of the Fort Myers-McGregor club, was awarded Florida Foundation Trustee of the Year. The Florida Kiwanis Foundation is the fundraising entity of the Florida District of Kiwanis International with the objective to provide an endowment fund to which clubs and individual Kiwanis members can contribute gifts and bequests.

Robert Jarrett of the Kiwanis Club of Fort Myers Beach was installed to serve as the 2012-13 Division 19 lieutenant governor on the statewide board of the Florida District of Kiwanis. Jarrett will serve as the liaison between the 14 Kiwanis clubs of Division 19, which covers Lee County and LaBelle, and will serve on the 34-member governing board of Kiwanis, which oversees all branches of the Kiwanis family.

The Kiwanis Club of Grand Cayman actively promotes the well being of young children and also supports the four Key Clubs in the High Schools.

Every year they organise, amongst others, a Golf tournament, a Bike-A-Thon, a “Buy A Kid Breakfast” programme, a Santa Landing, a Dog Walk, a Key Leader Weekend and the Mobile Library.
