Business aviation is on a positive growth trend in the Asian market and the Cayman Islands is poised to take in the tremendous opportunities that this market holds for this sector of the aviation industry. Recently, at the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) tradeshow Shanghai Hawker Pacific Business Aviation Service Centre (SHPBASC) announced their certification by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Cayman Islands (CAACI) to perform maintenance repair work on Cayman Islands’ registered aircraft. The press conference was held at the Orange County Convention Centre (OCCC) on Monday, 29′” October 2012 and was attended by the Director-General P.H. Richard Smith and Deputy-Director General Nicoela McCoy of the CAACL.
The CAACI completed an on-site audit of SHPBASC earlier in October, which resulted in the certification of that facility as a qualified maintenance facility for Cayman registered private and corporate aircraft. The certification marks the first time that a maintenance facility has been granted Cayman Islands’ approval in mainland China. Carey Matthews, General Manager for SHPBASC commented:
“Our approval will have a positive impact on customers with the VP-C registration operating in China. We have seen strong international traffic with the registration since we started business, and are delighted to be able to add this capability for the business aviation community. This continues the tradition of having SHPBASC pioneer efforts to mature the infrastructure to support the development of business aviation in China. This is particularly good news for OEMS looking for expanded coverage capability for their international customers.”
