Police Officer charged under anti-corruption legislation
A serving RCIPS police officer has been charged and is due to appear in court in connection with corruption charges.
The 28-year-old officer was arrested on Wednesday, 14 November 2012, in the Newlands area following a joint operation involving the RCIPS Professional Standards and Anti- Corruption Units. He was arrested on suspicion of soliciting a bribe and breach of trust (under sections 10 and 13 of the Anti-Corruption Law 2008 respectively).
The officer, who was off duty at the time of his arrest, was conveyed to George Town police station where he was detained in custody while enquiries continued.
He has now been charged with 2 counts of corruptly obtaining cash, contrary to section 10 of the Anti-Corruption Law 2008 and 2 counts of breach of trust, contrary to section 13 of the Anti-Corruption Law 2008.
He remains in police custody and is expected to appear in court on Monday, 19 November 2012.
The officer has been suspended from duty.
