Minister changes DUI plea to “Guilty”

Hon. Rolston Anglin

Cayman Islands Minister for Education, Hon. Rolston Anglin has changed his previous “Not Guilty” plea to “Guilty” to both driving whilst drunk and driving carelessly.

Announcing his decision outside the George Town Court on Tuesday (27) he read from a prepared statement and told reporters he had changed his position on the charges. He said it had come after discussions with family and friends as well as prayer and he will be attending a drunk driving course.

Anglin apologised to the people of Cayman saying he had come before the court and accepted full responsibility for his actions. “I should not have been driving that night,” he admitted and, as a result, had decided to enter the guilty plea after much prayer and discussion.

“It is in the best interest to put aside the issue so that I can continue to serve the Cayman people,” he said.

The minister said, “I have to limit my comments about the night in question because, the case is not over yet.” He added that the presiding magistrate still had to decide sentence.

The presiding magistrate had warned Anglin in the courtroom to limit all his comments about the case.
