Murder Victim now named – shot dead in car
Detectives investigating the murder of a 23-year-old man in George Town last night have named him as Jackson Rainford. Mr. Rainford, a Jamaican national, was resident in Spotts Newlands.
About 10.30 pm last night, Sunday 16 December, Mr. Rainford was sitting in the passenger seat of a white Honda Civic in Shedden Road near to Printers Way. At this time a man, armed with a firearm, approached the vehicle and shot him several times. The gunman then ran off. The driver of the Civic was not injured in the incident.
Police officers arrived on the scene a short time later and, as stated in our previous release, tried to resuscitate Mr. Rainford without success. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
A 20-year-old man was arrested shortly after 1.00am today in connection with the shooting. He was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody while enquiries continue.
The crime scene was initially searched last night and then remained sealed off until a further search could be carried out in daylight. The scene, and surrounding roads, were reopened around 10.20 am today.
A Murder Incident Room has been established at George Town police station and a team of 15 officers is currently dedicated to the investigation.

Shedden Road was closed from the traffic lights at Thomas Russell Way (Jacques Scott’s) to the junction with Dorcy Drive (round-a-bout) at NAPA. Along with Printer Way (this runs off Thomas Russell Way to Shedden Road)
This was so in order for the RCIPS to process the scenes.
Update to shooting incident below when a man was found shot dead in a vehicle
RCIPS officers arrested a 21yr old male at 1.15am on Monday December 17th 2012, in connection with the shooting death of the 23yr old male on Shedden Road GT on Sunday December 16th 2012
Acting Detective Superintendent, Angelique Howell released this statement:
About 10.30pm, December 16th 2012, 911 received a report of gun shots being fired on Shedden Road vic of Printers Way, George Town.
RCIPS Uniform Support Group officers were en-route to the scene when they came across a vehicle at the junction of Shedden Road and Thomas Russell Way George Town with one male passenger inside, who appeared to have been suffering from gun shot wounds.
Officers removed the victim from the vehicle and tried to resuscitate him without success. Victim was later pronounced dead at the scene by ambulance personnels. Victim was a 23yrs old Jamaican National.
An investigation has started in this matter and police are asking for any person(s) who may have witnessed this incident or have any information to please call any of the local police stations or Crime-Stoppers at 1800(Tips) 8477.
